Atari 2600 Phoenix by 2014-07-22 18:05:33

Everybody who knows me, knows that Phoenix is my all time favorite classic arcade game. I even own a Phoenix arcade machine that I bought on Ebay back in 2002.
So it should be no surprise that I own Phoenix for the Atari 2600 as well. When you first look at it, it doesn't look too hot. But it's actually pretty good. It has all five of the arcade screens. If Coleco had made the Atari 2600 Phoenix, it would've been missing at least two of the screens. It has both warbird screens, both of the larger Phoenix bird screens and the Mothership screen. One regret that I have is that Atari didn't make Phoenix for their Atari 400/800, 5200 or 7800.
I think that Atari did a pretty good job on their 2600 Phoenix. Let's face it, the Atari 2600 Phoenix is much much better than the 2600 Pac-man and E.T.

Phoenix on the 2600 was very well done. It would have been great to see Atari port the game to the 7800, though!

I agree: I particularly like the fact that you can shoot the wings off the birds. It's a nice detail that you wouldn't necessarily expect on a 2600 port, but I'm glad they took the time.
